Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has slammed the centre referee who took charge of their Football Kenya Federation Premier League match against Murang’a Seal on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

Seal managed a point against the reigning Premier League champions after holding on to register a goalless draw at Kasarani.

Disatisfied McKinstry

In his post-match reaction, McKinstry said he was not satisfied with the level of officiating witnessed during the game.

“It is very unfortunate at the end here, but look, even the fourth official spoke to me and said that it was an awful refereeing performance from the center referee. The fourth official said to me, ‘Coach, I know he has been awful’.

“The match commissioner will have noticed it all, and it is not that it was just for Gor Mahia,” McKinstry told the press.

The Northern Irish tactician revealed he had a word with the match commissioner, who promised to have the matter addressed.

“It was really remarkable, and we spoke to the fourth official at halftime, and he told me he was going to have a word with him (the centre referee) and tell him to get serious’, but it did not improve in the second half,” he added.

Wasted chances

Meanwhile, the coach was not satisfied with how his players performed, as he said that they were not able to convert their chances into goals.

“We were frustrated that we were not able to convert at times; it was really good play, and you felt that energy in the game,” McKinstry continued.

The former Rwanda and Uganda national team head coach lauded the fans who thronged Kasarani to support K’Ogalo.

“The crowd appreciated it as well because you felt that energy coming back from the crowd at some of our passes of play, but we just were not able to get it over the line,” he concluded.

K’Ogalo will face Muhoroni Youth in their next match, while Seal will be up against KCB.
