Gor Mahia completes transfer of Alphonce Omija from Oman-based club
Gor Mahia FC, the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation (FKF-PL) champions, has acquired the services of ball-playing defender Alphonce Omija.
The Harambee Stars defender joins the Kenyan football giants after a successful stint at Oman-based club, Dhofar Club.
In a statement on Saturday, July 20, 2024, K’Ogalo welcomed the 21-year-old defender who is expected to bolster their defence line ahead of the upcoming FKF-PL season.
Ambrose Rachier officially welcomed Omija to Gor Mahia where he started his career at the youth level.
“Alphonce Omija re-joins us from Oman side Dhofar Club. Omija came through the ranks from our Youth Team. Welcome jatugo,” the club’s statement read in part.
Omija’s stint in Oman
Omija, who has posted positive performance in recent outings with the national team, joined the Oman side in 2023.
During his tenure at Dhofar Club, the ball-playing defender was instrumental in securing the His Majesty Sultan Cup in May 2024.
His performance in Dhofar earned him a call-up to the national team with his remarkable outing being in the World Cup qualifier against Ivory Coast on June 11, 2024.
Omija stole the hearts of Kenyan fans following his solid defensive performance where he pocketed talented Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kofi Adingra in a match which ended in a barren draw.
Born on October 9, 2002, in Nairobi, Omija is expected to light up the FKF Premier League with his unique set of ball-playing ability and versatility in defence.
Before departing for Oman, Omija played for the Gor Mahia youth team and then joined Kariobangi Sharks where he received international recognition.
