Gor Mahia keeper leads golden glove race
Gor Mahia‘s goalkeeper Kevin Omondi continues to lead the FKF Premier League golden glove race after completing the first leg matches.
Omondi showcased outstanding goalkeeping skills by maintaining 11 clean sheets this season, securing Gor Mahia’s 1-0 victory over Posta Rangers and widening their lead by seven points at the top of the league standings.
Gor Mahia keeper exploits
His remarkable performance includes an impressive streak of seven consecutive clean sheets between October 7 and November 26.
During this period, Omondi successfully thwarted attempts from teams like AFC Leopards, Tusker, Bidco United, Shabana, Kenya Police, Murang’a Seal, and Muhoroni Youth.
In the last two matches before the break, Omondi added two more clean sheets as Gor Mahia triumphed over FC Talanta and Bandari.
Omondi’s defensive prowess is evident in the limited number of goals conceded, with only six teams managing to breach his defenses.
Nzoia Sugar stand out as the only side to score more than one goal against Omondi this season, contributing to a total of seven goals conceded in the 17 matches played.
In the golden glove race, Brian Bwire closely follows with nine clean sheets, while three players, including John Njau of Posta Rangers, John Otieno of Bidco United, and Patrick Matasi of Posta Rangers, have achieved seven clean sheets each.
Murang’a Seal’s Bonphas Munyasi boasts six clean sheets, and FC Talanta’s Isaiah Wakasala has accumulated five clean sheets.
Gor Mahia lead scoring charts
Meanwhile, in the goal-scoring department, Gor Mahia’s Benson Omalla remains at the top of the charts despite not finding the net in the last four matches.
Omalla, potentially moving to USM Alger, continues to be a strong contender for the Golden Boot, maintaining the momentum from the previous season where he finished second to Elvis Rupia.
