Former Gor Mahia midfielder Ronald Okoth has voiced his disappointment and criticism regarding the club’s decision not to renew Peter Lwasa’s contract, despite the player’s remarkable contribution to the team’s success.

Okoth, who was part of the Gor Mahia squad that clinched the league title in 2013, holds Lwasa in high regard and considers him one of the finest foreign players he has ever had the privilege to play alongside during his career at Sofapaka.

Expressing his confusion over the club’s reluctance to extend Lwasa’s deal, Okoth emphasized the forward’s instrumental role in helping Gor Mahia secure the league title.

He firmly believes that Lwasa’s exceptional performances on the pitch warrant a three-year contract extension.

“Not sure why Gor Mahia won’t renew Lwasa’s contract after that exemplary contribution to the title. Still remains one of the best foreign players I’ve ever played with in the same team while back at Sofapaka. I’d easily have tied down a player of his quality on a 3 yr contract,” he said in a statement.

Lwasa, who joined Gor Mahia FC in mid-September, made an immediate impact on the squad.

His contributions culminated in the team’s recent triumph as they clinched their 20th league title, with Lwasa even finding the back of the net in the crucial match which they won 4-1 against Nairobi City Stars on Sunday.
