Gor Mahia edge Sofapaka to move top of FK-FPL table
Former champions Gor Mahia edged out Sofapaka 1-0 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani to go top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League standings.
Burundian Jules Ulimwengu hit the target early on in the game to hand the record Kenyan champions their fourth win of this season’s campaign.
In their quest to reclaim the KPL title, Gor has so far defeated equal opponents like KCB, Kariobangi Sharks, AFC Leopards and Sofapaka respectively.
Gor dominated the proceedings but were wasteful in front of goal as both teams tried to settle in the enticing game.
However, in the second half, Gor steadily grew into the game but were unable to add a second goal of the afternoon.
The win sees Gor top the 18-team league with 12 points, with close rivals Kakamega Homeboyz with a game in hand scheduled to be played tomorrow.
On the other hand the loss was Sofapaka’s third this season and leaves them a distant 11 with four points after five matches.
In other KPL games, Nairobi City Stars came from behind to hold hosts Posta Rangers to a 1-1 draw in an early kick-off match played at Thika Stadium, Kiambu County.
Brian Marita was on target for Rangers in the first half, before Anthony Kimani spoiled the party to ensure City Star’s share the spoils with a goal with only a few minutes left on the clock.
The draw leaves City Stars temporarily second in the log with 10 points accumulated from five matches.
