Gor Mahia FC on Sunday claimed a convincing 2-0 win over defending champions Kenya Police FC at Nyayo National Stadium, taking control of the Kenya Premier League title race.

The match saw the Green Army dominate from the start. Felix Oluoch opened the scoring after a neat assist from Ghanaian import Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw, while Musa Shariff sealed the win in the 33rd minute.

The victory moved Gor Mahia to 16 points, two ahead of Kakamega Homeboyz, who currently occupy second place. Police, who had entered the match unbeaten, struggled to break through Gor Mahia’s defence and were outplayed in key areas of the pitch.

Balancing club, country duties

Before the match, Gor Mahia assistant coach Kobi Bismark-Mensah highlighted the challenges of balancing club duties with national team call-ups.

Seven K’Ogalo players, including Bryton Onyona and Musa Shariff making their first Harambee Stars appearances, are expected to join the Kenya national team for friendlies against Equatorial Guinea and Senegal later this month.

“Sometimes it affects their strength, but it is also good for them to get that exposure. We just have to manage it and make sure we get the best out of them,” Bismark-Mensah said.

Despite the national team call-ups, Gor Mahia showed strong cohesion on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Bismark-Mensah added that the team had to respond after a 1-1 draw against Ulinzi Stars in their previous league match.

Kenya Police FC, who had won their first KPL title last season, were expected to challenge Gor Mahia but were unable to match the Green Army’s intensity.

Police head coach Dusan Stojanovic, in only his second match in charge, maintained that the team approached the fixture seriously but could not overcome Gor Mahia’s superior play.

The win reinforces Gor Mahia’s dominance in Kenyan football. With league form and emerging talent combining, the Green Army look determined to maintain their push for the top spot.
