Gor Mahia Football Club has officially advertised the head coach position, just days after parting ways with interim tactician Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno.

The announcement, made via the club’s official social media platforms on Friday, July 4, 2025, comes as part of the club’s ongoing efforts to rebuild following a disappointing 2024/25 season.

Zico, who took over mid-season, was unable to reverse the club’s poor form. Gor Mahia failed to secure a single title, losing the FKF Premier League crown to Kenya Police FC and suffering a shock defeat to second-tier Nairobi United in the FKF Cup final.

The trophyless run marked one of the worst campaigns in the club’s storied history, triggering frustration among fans and internal calls for restructuring.

In a vacancy notice tagged “Ref: GMHC/0125”, the record Kenyan champions stated that they are looking for a highly qualified and visionary head coach to lead the senior team both locally and continentally.

The ideal candidate must hold a CAF A Pro Diploma or an equivalent international qualification and demonstrate at least eight years of experience managing a top-tier professional club or national team.

The club emphasised the need for strong leadership, a proven track record of competitive success, and a deep understanding of modern football dynamics. Experience in African leagues or CAF competitions was listed as an added advantage.

Applications are open until Monday, July 10, 2025, at 5:00 PM (EAT), with interested candidates required to submit their CV, cover letter, and relevant coaching certifications to [email protected].

The decision to advertise the position signals Gor Mahia’s intent to reset and restore its competitive edge after a chaotic season marred by inconsistent performances, tactical confusion, and growing fan discontent.

With no silverware and rising pressure from rival clubs, the next head coach will be expected to not only deliver results but also rebuild trust with a demanding fan base and return the club to its rightful place at the top of Kenyan football.
