The pecking order of the National School competition was redefined as the Brookside KSSSA National Secondary School Term One school games concluded in Mombasa on Saturday, April 12, 2025 games.

Schools from the Western region of Kenya cemented their dominance with their near clean sweep of performance signaling the region’s acclaim as a hub of sports development and talent.

Butere Girls, whose ‘Echoes Of War’ play in the national college and drama festivals has elicited quite a storm, proved their “Queens of the Courts’ status in Basketball with a third straight nationals final.

The Kakamega County-based school secured a 76-53 win over the coastal-based side, Kaya Tiwi.

In rugby, Vihiga High clinched the Rugby 15s boys’ crown after downing Kisii School 14-6 in a thrilling final that saw the two teams from the western part of Kenya battle for the new national rugby 15s title.

Kisii School, the Nyanza representatives had dethroned defending reigning champions and East Africa champions, All Saints of Embu, in the semifinals clash to set stage against Vihiga.

Laiser Hill snapped Western school dominance by clinching the basketball boys’ national title after edging defending champions Dr Aggrey.

The win saw the team come good on their promises to avenge a 2024 suffered against their coastal rivals.

Other triumphal teams included Musingu Boys and Kimilili’s St Luke’s Boys who retained their Hockey and Handball titles with wins over St Anthony’s and St Albert Kamito Boys respectively.

Kimilili snapped Kamito’s surprise resurgence in the national games upon their return to national games with a 35-18, final scoreline.

West Pokot county side, Kamito had beaten Nyanza representatives Manyatta in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Moi Girls Kamusinga’s 24-14 win over St Joseph Girls from Kitale marked a clean sweep of the Western team in handball games.

Tigoi Girls from Western also defended their crown in the girls’ category. Salome Anyango’s heroic shot in the 50th minute sealed a memorable 3-2 win over St Joseph Girls Kitale.

The focus for the team now shifts to ramping up preparations ahead of the Federation of East Africa School (FEASSSA) Games.


The continental games make a return to Kenya in 2025 starting in August this year.
