Four rugby stars graduate as APs after nine-month training
Kenya national team players Jeffrey Oluoch, Levi Amunga, and Collins Shikoli yesterday graduated from Administration Police Training College A Campus after a nine-month gruesome training period at the hands of servicemen.
Kenya Lionesses players Grace Adhiambo and Cgristabel Lindo were also part of the function held in Embakasi, Nairobi.
National Olympic Council of Kenya (NOCK) congratulated the athletes alongside others who had graduated the previous day including Commonwealth Games champions Ferdinand Omanyala (100 m) and Beatrice Chebet (5,000 m).
“Congratulations to all athletes who will be passing out today at the National Police College – Main Campus Kiganjo and celebrating the end of their nine months course at the premier institution. Rugby-Collins Shikoli. Jeffery Oluoch, Levi Amunga,” a statement by NOCK read in part.
Oluoch and Shikoli have previously won the national sevens circuit with Homeboyz RFC with Levy Amunga winning a Kenya Cup silverware with rugby heavyweights KCB RFC.
Due to their impressive performances in the rugby circles, the trio were called up to the Shujaa national team to fill vacant positions left by veteran players Oscar Ouma, Collins Injera, and Humphrey Khayange
According to NPS, the recruits completed the Basic Police Training Course in them; Human Rights, Community Policing, Public Order Management, Skills at Arms, and Countering Violent Extremism.
African record-holder Ferdinand Omanyala graduated on Tuesday as a constable from the Kenya National Police College in Kiganjo.
Omanyala, was among 2,881 constables that joined the Kenya police service after attaining the requirements. The sprint sensation joined the Police Service in December 2021 before he was appointed as a Police Inspector.
The former rugby player is currently the African record holder and 8th fastest man of all time in the 100 metres after clocking a time of 9.77 on 18 September 2021 in Nairobi.
National Police Service boasts of legendary athletes including David Rudisha, Joshua Kamworor, Vivian Cheruiyot, Julius Yego, and Ezekiel Kemboi.
