The Kenyan football fraternity has been thrown into mourning following the death of Justin Okiring, the former head coach of Trans Nzoia Falcons.

The sad news was confirmed on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, through a statement issued by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), triggering an outpouring of tributes from players, officials, and fans who knew him as a dedicated servant of the game.

Okiring’s passing marks a painful loss for grassroots football, particularly in Western Kenya, where he spent much of his career nurturing talent and building competitive teams under challenging conditions. Though he may not have enjoyed the limelight of top-tier football, those who worked closely with him say his impact was deeply felt at the community level.

In its statement, FKF acknowledged Okiring’s contribution to the sport and described him as a coach who served with commitment and humility.

“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) mourns the passing of Justin Okiring, former Head Coach of Trans Nzoia Falcons,” the federation said.

The federation noted that Okiring was widely respected within football circles, especially among players he mentored during his time at Trans Nzoia Falcons. Many young footballers credit him for instilling discipline, teamwork, and belief in their abilities, even when resources were limited.

He will not be forgotten

FKF further recognised the legacy he leaves behind, saying his work in Kenyan football will not be forgotten.

“Coach Okiring was a committed and respected servant of the game, whose contribution to Kenyan football will be remembered with gratitude,” the statement read.

At Trans Nzoia Falcons, Okiring was known for his hands-on approach and close relationship with players. He often doubled as a mentor and father figure, guiding athletes both on and off the pitch. Former players describe him as patient, firm, and passionate about developing football at the county level.

As news of his death spread, messages of sympathy continued to pour in from fellow coaches, club officials, and football fans across the country, many praising his quiet dedication and love for the sport.

FKF concluded its message with a solemn farewell, joining Kenyans in honouring the life of a man who gave his time and energy to football.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement added.
