Former Simbas coach Odera slams KRU over rugby woes
Former Kenya Fifteens rugby national team Paul Odera has slammed Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) for their dishonesty in the running of rugby activities in the country.
According to Odera potential sponsors have been kept away from the Ngong road-based offices due to a lack of confidence and trust in the current board of directors, adding the systems are broken.
“The current crop of the board of directors has governance and leadership issues, hence potential sponsors always keep off from such problems because trust issues will always be a hindrance to getting the deal,” Odera said.
According to Odera, the national teams that include Kenya Simbas and Kenya Sevens Shujaa will continue to suffer if governance issues are not addressed at the KRU offices since good governance brings confidence.
Odera, who was accompanied by the newly appointed KRU Chief Executive Officer Aggrey Wabulwenyi, was speaking during a local television show and urged the KRU board to rethink their strategy since it’s not about paying its players but rather ensuring the players have a conducive environment to compete.
He added that the challenges affecting KRU are systemic and structural rather than personality.
