Former Gor Mahia coach Frank Ouna has called on visionary leaders at Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards to step up and rescue the clubs from their current troubles.

Both clubs have faced bans recently due to their failure to clear dues owed to foreign players after their termination.

Gor Mahia Champions league miss

Gor Mahia, the Kenyan champions, are facing the possibility of missing out on the Champions League after failing to pay Adama Keita, one of their former players.

On the other hand, AFC Leopards has reportedly been directed to pay their former coach Patrick Aussems $25,000 USD (approximately Kshs 2.7 million) as outstanding remuneration and $120,000 USD (approximately Kshs 12.9 million) for breach of contract.

These financial issues have led to the clubs receiving bans from FIFA in the recent month due to their failure to pay and clear debts with former players. Ouna, who has served at Gor Mahia in the past, expressed his concern over the situation.

“I have been away only to come back to Gor Mahia FC being kicked out of the CAF Champions League for failing to meet the CAF Club Licensing Rules.

“Now, where are the defenders of mediocrity? There has been a systematic running down of football in this country,” Ouna said in a statement.

He further emphasized that it is time for visionary members to step up and present their visions and roadmaps for the clubs. Ouna called for proactive action to take back the clubs and steer them towards a better future.

Need for vision at Gor Mahia, AFC

“I will start with the log in my eyes: Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards. Calling them leaders is a mockery of that noun. Better must come. Visionary members must now stand up and present their visions and road maps. Take back your clubs,” he said.
