FKF president rallies fans ahead of CHAN 2024 games
By Luke Oluoch, June 28, 2025Football Kenya President Hussein Mohammed has rallied Kenyan fans to turn up and make the upcoming edition of the 2024 CAF African Championship competition a memorable experience for the region and Africa.
Mohammed’s sentiment came a day after the prospect of the first-ever hosting of the competition, initially scheduled for February before being postponed to August, became more apparent following the release of the fixtures for the preliminary stages of the competitions by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Friday, June 27, 2025.
According to the match schedule, Harambee Stars, who were pooled in Group A comprising five teams, will open their campaign against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
The clash against former hosts of the competition will pave the way for a second test against Angola on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Benni McCarthy’s charges will then face Morocco in their penultimate group tie before wrapping up the group engagement against Zambia’s Copper Bullets a week later.
Support
“The dates are out. The stage is set. Harambee Stars need your support. Let’s make CHAN 2024 a turning point for our team, our fans, and Kenyan football. This is our moment to rally together and give our boys the backing they deserve,” Mohammed said.

As the biennial tournament makes a historic appearance in East Africa, the FKF supremo expressed optimism that the hosting trio will showcase their capacity in their maiden task of hosting the competition featuring players plying the local leagues of their countries.
Deliver
“But this is bigger than just us. Kenya, alongside our neighbours Tanzania and Uganda, is proud to co-host this tournament – a first for our region. CHAN 2024 is a chance to show that East Africa cannot only compete on the pitch but also organise, host, and deliver a continental football event with excellence. Karibuni Kenya,” his statement parted.
