The Football Federation League (FKF) Premier League race may have been called, but there remains plenty to play for as the curtains close on the 2024/25 season of Kenya’s top-flight league.

Among the interesting events to keep an eye on are the teams that get relegated in what has been a captivating relegation dogfight and the Golden Boot race.

With new champions Kenya Police FC awaiting their crowning moment after the final whistle of what will be a dead rubber tie against Gor Mahia, several teams will be looking to avoid the chop with the important fixtures to salvage their survival bid.

Bidco United, Murang’a Seal, Nairobi City Stars, Posta Rangers, FC Talanta, and Mara Sugar are among those facing the threat of dropping from the league.

The two bottom-ranked teams will automatically be relegated from the top-flight league, as the 16th-placed team awaits the promotion/relegation play-off ties.

Among the candidates in contention for the drop include Bidco United, who will be out to claim a win against Sofapaka at Ruaraka Grounds.

Relegation fights

The Thika-based team will certainly drop to the NSL if they fail to beat Sofapaka, as they remain rooted at the bottom of the pile.

With matters partly not in their hands, the side will be hoping that other fellow relegation candidates in Muranga Seal, Posta Rangers, and City Stars drop points.

The clash pitting Murang’a Seal at home against FC Talanta is poised to be another relegation six-pointer.

The pair are currently separated by a single point, with Talanta ranked 14th on the table.

Seals have enjoyed a remarkable rise following Yussuf Chippo’s arrival and will be eyeing Talanta’s scalp with a much-needed victory.

Slim chances

Posta Rangers and Nairobi City Stars are other teams whose clash will bear much significance in the ultimate relegation battle.

The struggling teams are ranked at 15th and 16th, respectively, and head into a crucial duel against Bandari and Mathare United.

Victory for the sides against opponents already assured of survival could prove essential, as the teams will stand slim survival chances if their fellow contenders fail to get wins.

Golden Boot Race

The race for the FKF Premier League golden boot remains open and up for grabs, with three players in contention for the coveted prize.

Kakamega Homeboyz poacher Moses Shumah, FC Talanta’s Emmanuel Osoro, and Tusker’s Ryan Ogam are among those with a realistic chance of clinching the gong in the final round of fixtures.

Shumah, who leads the Netbusters’ charts with 17 goals, will be out to consolidate his push in Sunday’s clash against Tusker FC.

Shumah stands a goal better than Talanta’s prolific striker Osoro, who has netted 16 goals in the campaign.

Meanwhile, Ogam will be eyeing to storm the scene and spoil the party for the leading duo after recovering from an injury to make the Brewers’ final matchday squad.

The striker, who went head and shoulders clear in the race after a blistering form in the first half of the season, has since made his return and is eyeing a stab at the best scorer table.

“Back on a mission! Our forward Ryan Ogam makes the matchday squad for the first time since Feb 26 after recovering from knee surgery,” an update from his club stated.
