Gachagua receives James Ole Kipury as Narok gubernatorial aspirant on DCP ticket
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has received James Ole Kipury, an aspirant for the Narok County gubernatorial seat on a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket.
The meeting came on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence, where he continues to host political consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a Facebook post shared the same day, Gachagua confirmed that he had received Ole Kipury at his rural home.
“At Wamunyoro Residence this afternoon, I received Hon. Eng. James Ole Kipury, Gubernatorial aspirant for Narok County seat under our DCP Party,” he wrote.
He used the moment to restate confidence in the party’s strength in Narok and the wider Maa region. Gachagua said DCP continues to gain ground and attract support from local leaders and voters.
“I am very pleased that DCP PARTY continues to remain the party of choice in Narok and the Maa Nation,” he added.
Gachagua said his party is expanding its structures across the country as it prepares for the August 10, 2027 general election. He expressed confidence that DCP will perform strongly at the polls.
“We continue to strengthen our party across the country ahead of the 10th August 2027, and I have no doubt in my mind that we shall win the election by a huge margin,” he stated.
He also wished Ole Kipury success in his bid to become Narok governor.
“Eng. James Ole Kipury, I wish you the very best in your aspiration to lead the people of Narok County,” he said.
The endorsement shows DCP’s growing focus on Narok County, which has become an important political battleground in recent by-elections.

DCP builds ground in Narok
The Democracy for Citizens Party has been increasing its influence in Narok through steady election wins and active campaigns. In November 2025, DCP candidate Douglas Masikonde won the Narok Town Ward MCA seat. He secured 5,997 votes, defeating United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Robert Kanyinke Ole Kudate, who got 4,479 votes.
That win boosted the party’s profile in the region and showed that DCP could compete with established political parties in local contests.
DCP also put up a strong fight in Emurua Dikirr. In the May 2026 parliamentary by-election, the party’s candidate, Vincent Kibet Rotich, polled a competitive 10,760 votes against UDA’s David Kipsang Keter, who won with 18,266 votes.
These mixed results show that Narok politics remain highly competitive. Local dynamics, clan alliances, and development concerns continue to shape voter decisions.
Gachagua has made several trips to Narok as part of his wider political mobilisation strategy. In February 2026, he attended a homecoming event for another DCP aspirant, Martin Ole Kamwaro, in Narok North.
During his visits, he has consistently spoken about land rights for the Maa community and local empowerment. He has also urged residents to support leaders aligned with DCP.
His political messaging in the region has focused on unity, land ownership, and development. He often links these issues to broader national debates about fairness and representation.

The meeting with Ole Kipury took place at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence, which has become a key political centre for the DCP leader. He has turned the homestead into a consultation hub where he meets political aspirants, opinion leaders, and delegations from different counties.
Since June 15, 2026, Wamunyoro has hosted a steady stream of visitors as Gachagua holds grassroots consultations. These meetings form part of his preparations for the 2027 elections.
