FKF Premier League new season kicks off with 7 thrilling encounters this weekend
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League 2024/25 season kicks off this weekend with seven riveting matches lined up to set the pace for the title hunt.
The crunch ties feature some of the big clubs which are keen to dethrone record 21 FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia in this new season.
One of the mouthwatering actions for this opening weekend will see a former employee try to outmuscle his immediate former employer and escape with the maximum three points.
The first four matches will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024, and the remaining three matches will be played on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Tusker welcomes former gaffer
Tusker FC which finished second behind champions Gor Mahia will open their campaign against 2009 Kenyan Premier League champions Sofapaka at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
The match which will kick off at 4 pm will see Robert Matano face his former side the Brewers who are now under the guidance of interim coach Charles Okere.
The Brewers who parted ways with Matano after last season, will be looking to upset Sofapaka who survived relegation and begin their title hunt.

Early kick-off
The new season will however commence with two early kick-off matches. In the first match scheduled to start at 1 pm, Posta Rangers will take on Bandari at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Both teams will be looking to grab the maximum points and set their season off on the right foot.
In another early kick-off match, KCB will face Kariobangi Sharks at Police Sacco Stadium. This is expected to be an epic revenge encounter as the Sharks will be keen to upset the KCB side which eliminated them from the FKF Cup semifinal through a penalty shoot-out.
With revamped squads, both teams will be seeking to register positive results in their first match of the season.
Sunday fixtures
On Sunday, AFC Leopards will face a stern test against the newly promoted side Mathare United at Dandora Stadium starting from 3pm.
Another newly promoted side Mara Sugar will host Kakamega Homeboyz at Awendo Green Stadium. These opening fixtures will be crucial for the newly promoted sides as they aim to make their mark in the league.
Mara Sugar and Mathare United earned their promotion to the top flight from the FKF National Super League last season where they finished first and second with 84 and 82 points respectively.
Expected highlights
Mashemeji Derby is among the mouthwatering clashes expected to highlight the FKF Premier League. In this new season, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards will first lock horns on November 24, 2024, for the first leg, with the return leg set for April 6, 2025.
Drama is also expected when the league reaches its climax on June 22, 2025, with a full round of fixtures that could decide the fate of many clubs.
