FKF expels AFC Leopards from cup competition

AFC Leopards have been expelled from the ongoing Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup.
In its ruling following the abandonment of the match between Ingwe and Mara Sugar, FKF’s Leagues & Competitions Committee has judged that the Premier League giants are responsible and thus expelled.
According to FKF, the match was abandoned in the 89th minute following an invasion of the pitch by AFC Leopards SC fans in protest of the referee’s decision to rescind an earlier awarded penalty.
“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues & Competitions Committee has issued a ruling on the abandoned Mozzart Bet Cup match between Mara Sugar FC and AFC Leopards SC, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu.
“AFC Leopards SC fans were found responsible for causing the abandonment of the match by unlawfully invading the field of play.
“In accordance with Article 6.4(iv) of the Mozzart Bet Cup Regulations, read alongside Article 3.5.6 of the FKF Rules & Regulations Governing Kenyan Football, AFC Leopards SC shall forfeit the match, and Mara Sugar FC is awarded the victory and will progress to the next round of the competition.
“AFC Leopards SC has been issued a warning regarding the misconduct of their supporters and has been advised to implement adequate measures to prevent future cases of hooliganism and violence at their matches,” the FKF committee said in a statement on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
