The atmosphere is electric as Gor Mahia prepare to clash with Nairobi United in the Football Kenya Federation Cup final at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

But beyond the pursuit of silverware lies a deeper narrative — one of pride, passion, legacy, and a rare family duel.

In a heartfelt rallying call to fans, Gor Mahia reminded supporters that this final is not just about football.

“It’s a celebration of the spirit, pride, and passion that defines Gor Mahia,” read a statement from the club. Treasurer Gerphas Okuku echoed this sentiment, adding, “As we march into the Cup final against Nairobi United today, we do so not just as a team but as a family, a legacy, and a movement of champions.”

Gor’s test

While Gor Mahia missed out on the FKF Premier League title this season, the FKF Cup offers a golden opportunity to reclaim their dominance and close the campaign on a triumphant note.

Adding emotional weight to the fixture is a unique subplot—the Omala brothers’ face-off. Gor Mahia’s talisman Benson Omala, a proven goal machine and fan favourite, will lead the front line against his younger brother, Duncan Omala, Nairobi United’s emerging star. It’s a rare family rivalry on one of Kenyan football’s biggest stages.

Benson, already cemented as one of the league’s finest forwards, carries the weight of expectation. Duncan, the rising underdog, is eager to prove himself and carve out his legacy. The FKF Cup final offers both brothers a chance at history — but only one will walk away victorious.

The clash

While the sibling showdown adds intrigue, the tactical battle between experience and energy will define the match. Gor Mahia, with its rich history and formidable fan base, enters as a favourite. However, Nairobi United has built a reputation as giant-slayers this season — and they’re not here just to make up the numbers.

“Nairobi United have been the story of the tournament. Their run to the final has been nothing short of inspirational,” FKF said.

Their fairytale journey began with a 3-1 win over Global Connection in the round of 64. Then came the big scalps: Tusker FC, KCB, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Mara Sugar — all dispatched in gutsy performances, three of them decided by nerve-wracking penalty shootouts. Now, as newly crowned FKF National Super League champions, they eye a historic double and a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup — a feat last achieved by Mathare United in 1998.

Meanwhile, the green and white of K’Ogalo are expected to flood the stands. “Fans have been our strength all through the season, and we call on you once again to come out in large numbers to support the team,” urged Okuku. Gor Mahia’s ever-passionate supporters — the famous ‘12th man’ — will no doubt turn Ulinzi Sports Complex into a cauldron of noise and colour.

“Let’s show the world that Gor Mahia ni zaidi ya timu (is more than just a team). Together, let’s chase glory… Let’s make history,” the club’s leadership declared.

For Benson, it’s about defending a legacy. For Duncan, it’s about stepping into the spotlight. For Gor Mahia, it’s a shot at redemption. And for Nairobi United, it’s a chance to complete the dream.

As the clock ticks down to the 3:00 PM kick-off, one thing is clear: this is not just a football match. It’s a story of ambition, emotion, and the unrelenting pursuit of greatness.
