Fast-rising Chema Volleyball Club unveil GSU pair in major revamp
By Luke Oluoch, July 25, 2025Chema Volleyball Club has unveiled seven new players in a major revamp as the club eyes its place in the top flight of the Kenyan volleyball league.
The fast-rising volleyball outfit has raided reigning KVF champions, GSU, for Libero Hudson Kipchumba and Mathias Kemboi among the marquee signings.
The pair joins the Juja-based club following impressive stints with the General Service Unit (GSU) men’s volleyball team.
The two inspired the paramilitary team to the 2025 Kenya Volleyball Federation League in June 2025, in addition to bagging the recently concluded inaugural 2025 Kenya Cup.
Other new signings include Stephen Otieno, formerly with Kenya Forest Volleyball Club. The impressive setter also enjoyed stints with Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and will not be in the books of the Juja-based team.
Eugene Okello, a middle blocker, has also linked up with the team alongside Bethoven Otieno, a renowned libero.

Leister Mudibo and Wesley Limo add to the list of outside hitters joining the ranks of the club.
Chema’s rise to KVF
The signings signify the club’s intention to ruffle feathers and disrupt an already established pecking order in Kenya’s elite volleyball clubs.
Jeremiah Mukopi’s coached team has already shown their intention by attaining promotion to the Kenya top league volleyball club following playoff games staged in Nyayo National Stadium.
The feat came after the side punched above its weight in an international debut, storming the 25th edition of the Rwanda Genocide Memorial Tournament (GMT) finals on June 22, 2025.
During the tournament, the club piped rivals Kenya Ports Authority before stumbling to a final defeat to Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in the hotly contested finals on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
