Olympic and world 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon continued to redefine athletic excellence, securing yet another monumental achievement at the EBS Herculis Meeting in Monaco.

Kipyegon left the world in awe as she obliterated the world mile record, clocking a breathtaking 4:07.64*.

Just six weeks ago, Kipyegon amazed the world by setting two world records in eight days. Her brilliance was on full display as she ran 3:49.11 for the 1500m in Florence and 14:05.20 for the 5000m in Paris.

Now, back on the Wanda Diamond League stage at the Stade Louis II stadium, she once again etched her name in history.

With unmatched determination and prowess, Kipyegon surpassed the previous world mile record of 4:12.33 set by her long-time rival, Sifan Hassan, on the very same track in 2019.

Guided by two pacemakers, she executed her race strategy to perfection, hitting 400m in 1:01.76 and 800m in 2:04.10.

Kipyegon surges ahead

As the lights on the track indicated world record pace, Kipyegon surged ahead, leaving her competitors far behind.

Crossing the finish line in 4:07.64, she not only shattered the world record but also inspired the rest of the field to achieve extraordinary results.

Ireland’s Ciara Mageean secured second place with a remarkable Irish record of 4:14.58, ranking her fifth on the world all-time list. Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu clinched third place with a time of 4:14.79.

When she left the country, she was confident of breaking her third world record in a space of two months.

“I’m going for my third world record in Monaco where I will be running a mile. I’m in great shape at the moment and nothing is stopping me from breaking another record in Monaco,” Kipyegon told People Sport.
