Dominant KCB clinch Christie 7s title with convincing win over oilers
KCB Rugby once again showcased their class in the National Sevens Circuit, powering to a 26–7 victory over Menengai Oilers in the Main Cup final to secure the 2025 Christie Sevens crown at the RFUEA Grounds on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
The bankers, who have been relentless throughout this season’s campaign, stamped their authority early when Floyd Wabwire pierced through the Oilers’ defence to score the opener. Brian Wahinya added the extras for a 7–0 lead. Moments later, Festus Shiasi dotted down KCB’s second try, though Wahinya’s conversion attempt went wide. KCB carried a comfortable 12–0 advantage into halftime, looking firmly in control.
After the restart, Wabwire struck again with a brilliant kick-and-chase effort, grounding his second try of the afternoon. Wahinya’s conversion stretched the lead to 19–0, leaving Oilers chasing the game. The Nakuru-based side, who had earlier edged Strathmore Leos in a dramatic semi-final, found some reprieve when Samuel Mwaura powered through for their only try, but the conversion attempt fell short.
KCB, however, were not finished. A late flourish saw them add a fourth try, Wahinya slotting in the extras to seal a commanding 26–7 triumph and lift the club’s eighth Christie Sevens title.

Leos, Mwamba, Stallions triumph
Elsewhere, Strathmore Leos secured third place after edging Kenya Harlequins 24–19 in sudden death, with Gabriel Ayimba delivering the winning score. Kabras Sugar bagged ninth place after a narrow 12–7 win over Mwamba, while Nondescripts defeated Impala RFC 28–17 to finish fifth.
The women’s competition saw Mwamba crowned champions following a hard-fought 14–5 win over Kenya Harlequins. In Division Two, Kabete Stallions impressed with a 22–0 victory over Makueni RFC to claim the trophy.
The Christie Sevens victory pushed KCB to the summit of the National Sevens Circuit standings with 63 points, five clear of Strathmore Leos, underlining their dominance in the ongoing campaign.
Speaking after the final, head coach Dennis Mwanja hailed his players for their consistency but cautioned against complacency as the circuit heads into its latter stages.
“I’m happy we managed to clinch Christie, but our full focus now shifts to Embu Sevens. We are taking it one tournament at a time and not getting carried away with title talk. The key is to capitalize on the five-point gap we’ve opened,” Mwanja said.
The circuit now moves to Embu next weekend, where KCB will be aiming to extend their lead in the title race.
