Coach Wambua names Kabras pair for Vancouver series

Kenya Sevens coach Kevin Wambua has named the Shujaa squad for the fourth series of 4th stop of the series in Vancouver, Canada.
The tie will run for three days starting Saturday, February 22, 2025, to Monday, February 24, 2025.
Kenyan U20 fullback and Koyonzo Secondary School prodigy Jackson Siketi and Kabras’ playmaker Jone Kubu have joined the squad and will be angling for their respective debuts.
The two have enjoyed breakthrough seasons in club football and earned the nod of Wambua for the fourth edition of the World Sevens game.
Siketi made his first Kenya Cup start for Kabras RFC in their home clash against Kisumu RFC at the Kakamega Showground on December 6. The date coincided with his birth date and the youngster made a memorable moment by scoring his debut try in less than 30 seconds for Kabras.
He ended the clash with a brace despite featuring at fullback.
Siketi’s teammate at Kabras, Kubu is also another major addition to the squad. The youngster has earned his maiden call-up to the Shujaa, four years after making his debut for the Kenya Simbas in 2021.
The rest of the team remains unchanged and will be led by George Ooro and Samuel Asati who have been key cogs in the current seven set-up.
Tony Omondi and experienced Vincent Onyala will incorporate more mettle into the team’s spine.

Meanwhile, the pacey Patrick Odongo is set to bring his pace to the field after an exciting display in the Perth series.
Shujaa heads into the Vancouver series off an inconsistent run in the third series in the Western Australian city of Perth.
The side settled for a 10th-place finish after registering a narrow defeat against New Zealand in the ninth-place playoff played on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
In Vancouver, Kenya has been drawn into Pool A, alongside France, Argentina and Great Britain.
Kenya 7s, with 14 points in the World Sevens Series, has its work cut out against the side superior to them.
