Harambee Stars versatile player Clarke Oduor earned his first league start in Grimsby Town’s 7-0 goal rout against nine-man Cheltenham United on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Blundell Park.

Oduor, who joined the Mariners at the start of the season, has been involved in dramatic victories for his new club; even a seven-goal rout ranked far from a wild dream on his first start at home.

The England-based winger was part of the goal-galore fixture as Mariners netted a magnificent seven goals to complete a convincing win.

The visitors came into the game sitting at the bottom of the League Two table, although they started brightly and took the lead through Isaac Hutchinson.

Goals from Jamie Walker in the space of two minutes turned the game around, and Cheltenham were then reduced to 10 men in first-half stoppage time as midfielder Harry Pell saw a second yellow card.

A subsequent dismissal saw the visitors reduced to ten as the Mariners took full advantage of the numbers.

Jaze Kabia finished the tie as a contest, making it 3-1 in the 53rd minute.

Oduor involved

After seeing his delivery caught by the visitor’s keeper, Oduor was hugely involved in Mariners’ fifth goal.

His cross from the right broke for Charles Vernam at the far post, who fired it back across goal, past Day.

The Bradford City player, on loan at Grimsby, earned his debut in the Carabao Cup against Manchester United on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, as the League Two side stunned Premier League giants Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Oduor’s Grimsby debut

The Kenyan international was introduced in the 72nd minute with his new side holding an unlikely 2-0 lead against Ruben Amorim’s men.

Manchester United rallied late, with Bryan Mbeumo reducing the deficit in the 75th minute and Harry Maguire forcing extra time with a dramatic equaliser in the 89th minute.

The tie went to penalties after finishing 2-2 in regular time.

In a nerve-shredding shootout, Oduor missed his spot kick that was saved by André Onana, but his teammates held their nerve in an extraordinary contest that ended 12-11 in favour of the League Two minnows.
