Kuresoi North residents storm police station, demanding release of MP Alfred Mutai

A section of Kuresoi North residents have stormed Central Police Station in Nakuru, demanding the immediate release of their Member of Parliament, Alfred Mutai, who was declared a wanted person following chaos in the area.

According to videos seen by People Daily Digital on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, large crowds were gathered outside the station, chanting and pressing for the MP’s release as security officers moved in to restore order and prevent further escalation.

Mutai was, on Monday, June 22, 2026, detained at Nakuru police station after he surrendered to authorities over the chaos that were recently witnessed in the area.

At least five people were injured and vehicles damaged during the event attended by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

MP Mutai declared wanted

Mutai had been a wanted man since Friday, June 19, 2026. A second incident occurred on June 19, 2026, at Sirikwa Umoja Grounds in Kuresoi Sub-County, Nakuru County, during a Youth Empowerment Meeting attended by several political leaders.

Preliminary reports indicate that a confrontation broke out between groups of suspected goons allied to Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai and supporters of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

Several individuals sustained gunshot injuries, and a bus carrying event materials was set ablaze.

The NPS said it has identified Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai as the prime person of interest in connection with the Nakuru incident and confirmed that he is currently on the run.

Police launched a manhunt and urged him to surrender to assist in investigations. The service said all individuals involved in violence will be pursued regardless of their position or political affiliation.

Those arrested

Police have arrested 56 persons of interest following violent disruptions that erupted during a public event attended by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika in Kuresoi North Sub-County, Nakuru County.

The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement issued via X on Saturday, June 20, 2026, confirmed the arrests, saying investigations had been intensified to establish the circumstances surrounding the chaos that interrupted the high-profile gathering.

The event, held on June 19, 2026, brought together Governor Kihika, senior government officials, county leaders and members of the public before violence broke out, leaving several people injured and sparking political tensions in the area.

Authorities revealed that 56 individuals had so far been arrested in connection with the incident and remained in custody as investigations continue.
