Chris Kinuthia elected new chairperson of Kenya Golf Union

The Kenya Golf Union (KGU) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) over the weekend at the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club, marking a significant transition in leadership.
During the meeting, Chris Kinuthia from Thika Sports Club was officially elected as the new Chairman of the Union, succeeding David Ndung’u of Limuru Country Club, who had served in the role since May 2024.
Kinuthia’s appointment ushers in a new chapter focused on strengthening club partnerships, grassroots development, and elevating the sport across Kenya.
In his acceptance speech, Kinuthia emphasised the critical role that golf clubs play in the health and future of the sport.
“Our clubs are the lifeblood of Kenyan golf. They are where the game lives, breathes and thrives. KGU must be a true partner—listening closely, supporting practically, and responding effectively to the needs of every club,” Kinuthia stated.
He outlined his vision for the Union under his leadership, pledging stronger engagement and institutional support.
“We will enhance communication, provide legal support, especially in these challenging times, improve staff efficiency, and work hand in hand with clubs to grow participation and elevate standards,” he said.
“We will expand our reach, ensuring that promising golfers across the country receive the support and opportunities they deserve, regardless of their background or geography. Improving talent identification and development will be at the core of our agenda,” he added.
Joining Kinuthia in the new leadership team are Brian Akun from Vet Lab Sports Club (Vice-Chairman), Jonathan Marucha from Kenya Railway Golf Club (Honorary Secretary), Weldon Mutai from Sigona Golf Club (Treasurer), James Gitonga from Mombasa Golf Club (Executive Member), Liban Roba from Karen Country Club (Executive Member), Peter Mwaura from Ruiru Sports Club (Executive Member), Robert Ngugi from Muthaiga Golf Club (Executive Member), Robert Obondy from Nakuru Golf Club (Executive Member), and Sam Kang’au from Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club (Executive Member).
The newly elected leadership brings together diverse experiences from clubs across Kenya.
Their collective mandate is to drive the KGU’s strategic goals while ensuring inclusivity, transparency, and growth for all stakeholders in Kenyan golf.
During the meeting, members also approved a special resolution to increase the annual club affiliation fee from Ksh3,000 to Ksh4,000.
This adjustment is expected to strengthen the Union’s operational capacity, enhance support for member clubs, and fund key initiatives, including junior development programs, course rating services, and technical training for officials and staff.
