The kickoff of the 2023/24 season of the FKF Women’s Premier League (FKF-WPL) has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 7, 2023.

This change comes as a slight departure from the originally planned start date of September 23, 2023.

FKF WPL adjustments

According to FKF, the reason behind this adjustment is the upcoming curtain-raiser for the season, the FKF Women’s Super Cup.

The match will feature 2023 FKF Women’s Cup champions, Ulinzi Starlets FC, and the reigning FKFWPL 2022/23 champions, Vihiga Queens FC. The clash will be on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

The decision to postpone the official start of the FKF-WPL season was also primarily made to facilitate the ongoing preparations of the Harambee Starlets for their Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers against Cameroon.

Numerous players from both Ulinzi Starlets and Vihiga Queens are currently representing the national team leaving their squads depleted.

FKF PL round 1 fixtures

In the inaugural round of the FKF-WPL, the defending champions, Vihiga Queens, will embark on their quest to retain the title as they face off against the formidable Ulinzi Starlets.

Gaspo FC, last season’s runners-up, will welcome Bunyore Starlets at Stima Club for what is expected to be a fiercely competitive match.

Adding to the intrigue, league newcomers Bungoma Queens will test their mettle against league returnees, Kibera Soccer Ladies.

In another exciting fixture, Soccer Assassins, also new to the top tier, will lock horns with Kenya Police Bullets.

The transfer window is currently open, having commenced on Friday, July 21, 2023. The window is scheduled to close on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 5 pm, giving teams the opportunity to strengthen their squads ahead of what promises to be a thrilling season of women’s football in Kenya.
