CHAN 2024: Abud Omar stresses readiness for CHAN, urges fans support

By , August 2, 2025

Harambee Stars skipper Abud Omar has reiterated the team’s readiness for the 2024 African Nations Champions (CHAN) Games ahead of their Sunday, August 3, 2025, opener against DR Congo at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Speaking on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Omar said the mood in the Stars camp is on a high after President William Ruto pledged a lucrative cash reward following his visit to the team.

“We have prepared well, and the players are happy, especially with the motivation from the president today. We are prepared for the game against DCR tomorrow,” he stated.

The skipper, who will lead the team out for the historic moment as Kenya hosts a major championship for the very first time, has sent a message to the Kenyan fans to turn out and support the team.

Good performance

Kenya will kick off their campaign with a test against two-time competition winners DR Congo, with Abud hopeful of a positive start.

“There is no pressure. We are waiting for the game tomorrow after preparing for quite a long time, and now it is time to let it show. I hope tomorrow we will have a good performance. I want to urge fans to turn up in large numbers and cheer us on. We are all Kenyans; let us unite and fly the Kenyan flag high,” he added.

His sentiments come after coach Benni McCarthy laid down the team’s targets of making it to the finals of the championship.

The SA tactician stated that the team will leave everything on the pitch as they embark on the historic games, starting with the opener against DRC.

Eyes on the finals

“We will do our utmost best so that everybody can be proud of being a Kenyan. The player will show every bit of spirit starting tomorrow that every Kenyan can associate with,” he said.

“The players have been putting in the hard work, and we are ready to do our best and be there until the last man standing. We want to be in that final come the 29th of August, and we are going to be in that final,” he added.
