Defending champions Butali Sugar Warriors take on former champions Strathmore University Gladiators in one of the two men’s Premier league matches set for the City Park Stadium this weekend.

Butali, fresh from a 2-0 win over United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa), will be keen for victory to consolidate their lead at the top.

Gladiators received a reprieve two weeks ago when they defeated Wazalendo 2-1. They are ranked seventh on the 10-team log.

Coach Dennis Owoka of Butali is warning the champions of complacency against the 2016 winners who have had a far from convincing season.

“Sides that are near the relegation are the ones we should be wary of. Gladiators are still a very good side despite the bad season, we cannot afford to take the leg off the gas pedal,” said Owoka, whose side are the only one yet to share defeat in the men’s Premier League.

Wazalendo, who are second on the log with 26 points following a 4-1 win over Sailors, will not be in action over the weekend. Going to the weekend, Butali have eight wins and three draws, while Wazalendo have eight wins, two draws and three losses.

The other men’s Premier League match will involve USIU-Africa who will be seeking to bounce back to winning ways when they host Greensharks on Sunday at the City Park Stadium. In the women’s Premier Lakers will host Kenyatta University in Kisumu. In Nairobi Amira Sailors will play USIU-A.
