CECAFA: 3 stand-out performers in Harambee Starlets’ win over Uganda

The Kenya Women’s National Team, Harambee Starlets, made another statement of intent in the ongoing CECAFA Women’s Senior Challenge Cup with a 4-0 hiding of rivals Uganda Crested Cranes on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 in Tanzania.
The win placed Kenya among the early favourites in the regional games, moving them up to second in the standings with six points alongside leaders Tanzania.
People Sports highlights three players who stood out in the tie as Kenya claimed back-to-back victories to extend their perfect start to the championship.
Diana Wacera
The Police Bullets midfielder was not only among the goal scorers of the night but also enjoyed a commanding performance against the neigbouring rivals.
Featuring at the centre of the pitch alongside Lavender Akinyi, the enforcing pair put no foot wrong in the clash with a dominant display that saw Ugandans looking like peripheral opponents in the tie.

Wacera topped her performance by scoring the game’s opener, setting the stage for another cruising win for the Kenyan ladies’ team.
Dorcas Shikobe
The skipper was deservedly named the Woman of the Match after notching a couple of assists and a goal in Kenya’s emphatic win on Tuesday night.
Named to partner Ruth Ingotsi at the heart of defense, Shikobe anchored the rearguard confidently to help Kenya to a well-earned clean sheet.

She also featured prominently in both boxes. The center back particularly proved a handful in the opponent’s box.
Twin assists
In what was her best game yet for Beldine Odemba, Shikobe set up Diana Wacera for the opener following a corner.
The towering defender expertly lofted the ball back in the danger area, where Wacera’s looping header fooled the keeper en route to the 18-minute opener.
She claimed her most telling contribution midway in the first half, pouncing on a loose ball to connect home Kenya’s second from a set-piece routine.
She wrapped up an all-around performance with her second assist of the day in the final ten minutes with a well-weighted cross to Martha Amunyolet for Kenya’s wrapped-up scores.
Martha Amunyolet
The Vihiga Queens striker is arguably enjoying her time with the national team if her travails in the ongoing championship are anything to go by.
She has fittingly proven herself as the woman to go to for goals after lifting her tournament’s haul to three goals with a well-taken header late on for Kenya’s fourth goal.
Three goals
She carried on from her brace hero display in the opener against Burundi to notch her third goal of the campaign.

The striker deftly steered home from Shikobe’s cross to keep the match beyond Sherly Boates’ Crested Cranes charges.
In what was another commanding display in front of goal, Amunyolet vindicated her call-up, much after eyebrows were raised after she was named in an offensive line with established strikers like former Vihiga Queens Jentrix Shikangwa and Corazone Aquino being left out.
Kenya next faces South Sudan in their third game of the championship on Thursday.
