Cash prizes top clubs have pocketed in ODM@20 tournament
By Joel Masibo, October 10, 2025Four Kenyan Premier League clubs walked away with prizes in cash following the conclusion of the ODM@20 Tournament on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa County.
Tournament winner and record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia bagged Ksh1000,000 prize money, while runners-up Bandari Football Club were awarded Ksh750,000.
Kenyan Premier League leaders Shabana FC got away with Ksh500,000 for winning the third-place playoffs, while AFC Leopards got Ksh250,000 for finishing fourth at the hotly contested tournament amid the international football break.
Gor Mahia booked their position in the final after beating Shabana FC 4-3 in post-match penalties after playing to a 1-1 draw in the semi-finals on Thursday, October 9, 2025. On the other side, Bandari qualified for the final after edging AFC Leopards 4-3 in post-match shootouts as well, after playing to a barren draw at the same facility on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
ODM 20th anniversary
Meanwhile, in a statement shared on X on Sunday, September 14, 2025, ODM unveiled its preparations for a mega three-day celebration in Mombasa, promising a mix of politics, culture, and sports as part of the anniversary activities. The party said the events have been designed to draw in leaders, supporters, and the wider public from across the country.
“Satisfied with the arrangements of the mega event that will be held in Mombasa City for three days. Activities will include a football tournament and the main celebrations to be hosted at the Mama Ngina Waterfront,” the party added.
Earlier, ODM announced the postponement of its 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa, originally set for October 10–12, 2025. According to a press statement on Friday, October 3, the move aims to expand its outreach across more counties.
“Consequently, the final preparations and main event in Mombasa have been rescheduled to 14th to 16th November 2025,” the statement read in part.
“To date, the ODM@20 celebrations have been successfully hosted in Busia, Wajir, Kisii, and Narok counties. However, there remains a strong call from other regions across the country for us to extend this historic commemoration to their areas as well to enable those who cannot travel to Mombasa to be part of the fête,” the statement added.
After winning the ODM@20 Tournament, Gor Mahia will go head-to-head with Chungwa FC in a special exhibition match. Chungwa FC features a mix of ODM party players.
