Gachagua: Wetang’ula, Mudavadi benefited personally from Ruto’s coalition deal
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has renewed his attacks on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, saying the coalition agreement they signed with President William Ruto only benefited them and their families while failing to deliver the promised development projects for the people of Western Kenya.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Gachagua said he had already raised the matter during his tour of the Western region last month alongside leaders of the United Alternative Government coalition. He maintained that the agreement reached between President Ruto, Wetang’ula and Mudavadi had largely remained unimplemented, except for what he described as benefits negotiated for the two leaders and their families.
According to Gachagua, he took time to explain the contents of the agreement to residents of the region and argued that development commitments made to the people had been abandoned.
“I explained to my cousins in detail that the only part of the agreement that had been honoured is what Wetangula and Musalia negotiated as individuals and their families,” Gachagua said.

Development projects left out
Gachagua said projects promised under the agreement were not included in the latest national budget, making their implementation unlikely.
He further said Members of Parliament were mobilised to criticise him after he publicly questioned the implementation of the coalition agreement.
“All that had been negotiated and agreed upon for the people had been ignored for the last four years and will not be implemented. This is because the last budget had been concluded, and all those projects are not funded,” he said.
Message to Western Kenya
The DCP leader said Wetang’ula and Mudavadi were campaigning vigorously for President Ruto’s re-election because of personal interests.
He said the two leaders were asking the people of Western Kenya to support Ruto so that they and their families could continue enjoying the benefits of the coalition arrangement.
Gachagua concluded by saying he would continue speaking what he believes is the truth and remain committed to informing the people of Western Kenya about the coalition agreement and its implementation.
Gachagua: Mudavadi and Wetang’ula betrayed Western Kenya
During his western tour, the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua accused Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula of protecting their “selfish interests” at the expense of the Luhya community.

Speaking at a rally in Luanda, Vihiga County, on Friday, June 12, 2026, Gachagua said the two leaders became complacent after President William Ruto rewarded them with key positions in government and stopped pushing for the region’s agenda.
“After Ruto gave them jobs, they felt satisfied and forgot to ask for implementation of the MoU with the president on 30 per cent government slots,” Gachagua told the crowd.
