CAF to host CHAN 2024 technical insights discussions in Nairobi
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that it will host two high-level African Nations Championship (CHAN) technical insights discussions in Nairobi on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The discussions, part of CAF’s commitment to advancing technical knowledge in African football, will feature selected members of the Technical Study Group (TSG) who will share in-depth analysis on tactical trends, player performances, and coaching strategies observed at the ongoing CHAN, Pamoja 2024, currently staged across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The sessions will be broadcast live by two of Kenya’s media in the studio and from the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, at 11 am and 4 pm.
Mixed Zone media engagement will be held at Kasarani starting at 5:00 pm, giving accredited journalists the opportunity to interact directly with CAF’s technical experts.
Expert panel
The discussions will feature some of Africa’s most respected football minds, including:
Mark Fish (South Africa) – A 1996 AFCON winner and former defender for Orlando Pirates, Lazio, and Bolton Wanderers. Fish is widely recognised for his expertise in player psychology, leadership, and youth development.
Abraham Mebratu (Ethiopia) – A CAF Elite Instructor and former Technical Director of both the Ethiopian and Yemeni football federations. Mebratu has also coached the Ethiopian and Yemeni national teams, bringing deep technical and strategic insights.
Oscar Rabson Mirambo (Tanzania) – The current Technical Director of the Tanzania Football Federation, UEFA Pro License holder, CAF Elite Instructor, and FIFA Coach Educator. He has been central to Tanzania’s football growth, particularly in youth development and coaching standardisation.
Michael Amenga Okoth (Kenya) – A seasoned coach and administrator, and former FKF Technical Director. Amenga has played a key role in shaping Kenya’s football development structures and policies at both grassroots and continental levels.
CAF says the Nairobi sessions will provide a unique platform for knowledge exchange, offering coaches, journalists, and football stakeholders a rare chance to engage with TSG experts and gain insights into the evolution of African football. The initiative comes as the CHAN 2024 tournament continues to showcase homegrown talent across East Africa, with all three host nations, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, reaching the CHAN 2024 quarter-finals.
