Bryton Onyona rallies Gor Mahia fans ahead of Mashemeji Derby
Gor Mahia’s emerging full-back, Bryton Onyona, has urged the club’s faithful to throng the National Stadium on Sunday, December 7, 2025, as K’Ogalo takes on rivals AFC Leopards in the 98th edition of the famous Mashemeji Derby starting at 3:00 pm local time.
Onyona has quickly become one of the club’s most reliable figures this season. His composure, sharp decision-making, and relentless energy on the wing have not only cemented his spot in the first XI but also earned him his first-ever Harambee Stars call-up during November’s international friendlies.
As the team prepares for Sunday, December 7, 2025, Onyona has said there is a need for calm ahead of the fixture.
Top gear preparations
Speaking about the squad’s mindset following their recent 4-1 disappointment against APS Bomet, Onyona has admitted the players are keen to bounce back strongly.
“Preparations are going on well. We are working hard. We lost our last game, so we have to do much better and get a win to cement our position at the top of the table,” Onyona told club media on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

He also pointed out the influence of the coaching staff, praising their efforts to keep the group sharp and mentally switched on:
“The coaches are doing everything to get us ready. We just want to be calm,” Bryton Onyona stated.
With the Mashemeji Derby known for its high tension and fierce rivalry, Onyona stressed the importance of staying composed amid the hype:
“It is a derby, so the pressure is there. There is no underdog in a derby; everyone wants to win it. But we want to stay calm and approach it like a normal game,” he added.
Role of supporters

He also delivered a thoughtful message to the club’s loyal supporters, reminding them of their role while the players focus on theirs:
“We let the fans fight the war off the pitch while we fight ours on the pitch,” Heading into the much-anticipated clash against AFC Leopards, Onyona summed up his approach with a simple, determined mantra: “The motive is just to play and win.” Onyona stressed.
With growing confidence and fresh national team exposure, Onyona remains one of the key talents to keep an eye on as Gor Mahia enters one of the most historic fixtures in Kenyan football.
