Bomet APS gun down Heroes to move atop Super League
APS Bomet Football Club returned to winning ways on Sunday after their convincing 3-0 victory over visitors Coastal Heroes. APS has now moved to the top of the log with 33 points in what is turning out to be a see-saw battle at the top of the National Super League with all eyes on premiership promotion.
It was new Coach Charles Odera’s first win after three matches in-charge and it now puts the team on solid ground to push forward.
The administration men have however been a tad inconsistent in the past five matches with only two wins in the process which has messed up their momentum. As for Heroes, they have fallen two places to 12th and currently have 21 points in the bag with an inconsistent run affecting them too. In their last duel, they humbled Muhoroni Youth 4-1 at home in Mbaraki while the Bomet side had lost 3-1 to Kibera Black Stars.
Meanwhile, Dandora Love came through 3-2 against Kisumu All-Stars FC to move to 10th on the log with 23 points. The James Nandwa coached side had previously lost two back-to-back matches.
All-Stars on the other hand have been disappointing lately and are holding 14th place with a meagre 20 points off 17 matches played. In their past five matches, they have won only once with the last two matches before their loss against Dandora ending in draws.
A heavyweight clash pitting second-placed Fortune Sacco against fourth-placed Shabana ended in a 1-1 draw.
The match held at the Awendo Green Stadium was a battle of both halves with the hosts Shabana enjoying spells in the second half against Sacco’s first-half exploits.
The first half ended goallessly but the frenetic second stanza of the match saw two goals come against the run of play with Shabana leading first before a late equalizer from the visiting side.
Coach Sammy Okoth of Shabana decried lapses of concentration but added that it was one of the best tests so far for his team.
“The game overall was tough but I admit also that this was by far our best test. The match taught us how to deal with tense situations and also be confident. For us, it is about improvements and this is what I am witnessing so far.
The game could have gone either way and I respect Fortune Sacco but also in retrospect we should have won if we did not lose concentration for the goal we conceded.
We will do some work going forward as we prepare to travel for another tough encounter against Murang’a Seal this weekend,” said the former Vihiga United tactician.
