Blak Blad earns return to Division I after Prinsloo triumph
Blak Blad secured a return to Division I of the National Sevens Circuit after edging Kabarak University 10-5 in a tense Prinsloo 7s Division II final played at the Nakuru Athletic Club on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Kabarak drew first blood with an unconverted try by Teddy Wachira to lead 5-0 early in the game. But George Otete responded just before halftime, leveling the score at 5-5 as both teams struggled with conversions.
Late try seals
In the second half, a penalty in Kabarak’s red zone gave Blak Blad the opening they needed. Opting for a quick tap, they charged forward and crossed the whitewash for a decisive try. Though they missed the conversion again, it was enough to seal a 10-5 victory.

The win marked a sweet comeback for Blak Blad, who were relegated after the Driftwood 7s. They will now compete in Division I at the upcoming Christie 7s in Nairobi.
Flawless campaign run
Blak Blad had a dominant weekend. They opened their pool matches with a 19-0 win over MKU Nairobi, followed by a 19-12 win over NYS Spades and a 24-0 shutout of Molo RFC.
In the quarters, they blew past Project 61 TENP 32-0 and overpowered Kisii National Polytechnic 34-0 in the semis.
Kabarak fall short
Kabarak University also impressed in the tournament. They topped their group with wins against KCA University (17-5), Jackals (24-12), and Egerton Wasps (34-0). In the knockout phase, they eliminated Jackals again 17-0 and beat Sigalagala Polytechnic 24-10 to reach the final.
