Bidco United to build on Elite Cup glory as FKF PL kicks off
Bidco United will strive to better their position in the FKF Premier League when the 2023-24 season gets underway on Saturday.
The Oil Makers finished the last campaign in position 13th of the 18-team table with 36 points after managing nine wins, nine draws, and 16 defeats, and according to head coach Anthony Akhulia, their immediate challenge is to move up the log in the new campaign.
“Last season we finished below the mid-table and it is something we will work to improve on in the new season, we want to get ourselves way above the position we finished in last season, we don’t belong there, to be honest, we need to be way above that position and it is our major target heading to the first match,” said Akhulia.
Three days ago, Bidco posted on their social media pages a message indicating they are ready and prepared to kick off the season by stating: “Exactly six days till FKF Premier League resumes,” adding: “We are not afraid to say that we’re as prepared as anyone can be.”
When asked if indeed his charges are ready for another grueling campaign: Akhulia responded: “We have prepared well, we have had one of the best pre-seasons in a very long time and I must admit we have the capacity required to mingle with the big boys at the top level again.”
During pre-season, Bidco featured in the Elite Cup competition and emerged winners after defeating Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 in the final. In other matches during the tournament that saw them pocket Ksh1 million and a trophy, they defeated Rainbow FC 2-0 and Nairobi City Stars 1-0 to reach the final.
They also played two friendly matches against league champions Gor Mahia, winning the first contest 2-1 before losing the second by a similar margin at Mpesa Foundation grounds.
Bidco will go into the campaign having beefed up their squad with the arrivals of Shariff Musa and Dan Guya from Kariobangi Sharks, and winger Chris Opondo from Mathare United. They will kick off their campaign with an away fixture against Posta Rangers at Kasarani Annex on Sunday.
