Benson Tunyo wins Nairobi City Marathon

Benson Tunyo has won the Nairobi City Marathon after shrugging off strong competition to emerge victorious in the fourth edition of the 42 km race staged this Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Justus Limo finished second in a time of 2:08:48, with Albert Kangongo wrapping up the podium with a time of 2:09:07.
The Iten-based runner, running KeepRun management, revealed his delight with the performance. The win was his second competitive win after his victory in the 45th edition of the Donostia, San Sebastián Marathon in November 2023.

Speaking after the victory, Tunyo attributed his success to a proper training regime ahead of the race. He had previously featured in the 2023 edition, where he finished at eighth.
The edition was won by Robert Kiplimo Kipkemboi in a time of 2:07:38.
Good planning
“I had planned well for this race by training. The weather has been good for me, and I’m glad my body responded well despite lagging after 35 km,” the runner who finished eighth in the previous edition of the race stated.
He was also thankful to his teammates and training partners Timothy Kipsowek and Ekoite Cheserek.
“I am thankful to all the athletes whom we have been training alongside under the KeepRun management. It is my first marathon in Kenya to win,” the Iten-based athlete added.
With the feat earning him the ultimate Ksh 3.5 million windfall, Tunyo has revealed his dream of changing his parents’ livelihood with the kitty.
“I intend to change my parents’ lives. They are in Marakwet East while I train in Elgeyo Marakwet. We will sit down with them and see how to go about it,” he revealed.
