Battle for FKF women’s league title intensify as Vihiga Queens extends lead
Domitila Wangui has urged her team to quickly erase any bad taste following unexpected results against Thika Queens and regroup ahead of their next match.
The two sides played to a barren draw at Stima Club on Saturday, results that dented both teams’ quest for the league title after dropping two crucial points.
“We were hoping for a win but it didn’t happen. The match was not tough, we had few chances to score but we didn’t utilise them well. Generally, I’m not satisfied with the draw but that’s behind us now, we need to focus on our next game,” coach Wangui said.
After the match, Gaspo remains second with 29 points while defending champions Thika Queens are placed fourth with 27 points, thus giving a huge advantage to run away leaders Vihiga Queens to charge towards winning the league comfortably.
Ulinzi Starlets were forced to a one-all draw with visiting Wadadia FC. Ulinzi opened the scores through Jentrix Kuyudi but Amida Wesonga equalised for Wadadia to tie matters 1-1 at full time. The results, leave Ulinzi third on 27 points, while Wadadia are ninth on 12 points.
Meanwhile, title favourites Vihiga Queens opened a nine-point lead after beating hosts Trans Nzoia Falcons 3-0, completing a double after they beat them 3-0 again in the first leg.
Janet Bundi grabbed a brace with Moreen Achieng completing the rout with the third goal to catapult Vihiga to 38 points from 12 wins and two draws in 14 matches. Falcons remain fifth with 25 points from seven wins, four draws, and three defeats.
Zetech Sparks on the other hand was savagely cruel to struggling Kayole Starlets, thrashing them 7-1. Captain Puren Anyetu scored five goals with Joy Kinglady and Violet Achieng scoring one each to help the Benard Kitolo tutored side to hit 21 points in sixth place.
