University of Nairobi men’s basketball team is worried that an early return to action for sporting activities could spell trouble for the university teams as they may not be able to play.

While the sporting fraternity awaits  a government decision on action return,  the Ministry of Education has ruled out the possibility of universities opening up in September as earlier projected.

If the Ministry of Sports gives a go-ahead for resumption while schools remain closed, Ngenga’s charges will be caught in a dilemma.

“That will be a tricky situation because the institution might not allow us to play.

All the fields are closed and seeing that we have already recorded positive cases at the university, it could prove impossible to have the players return just to feature in the league.

Their safety is a priority,” expressed the coach, a former UoN forward, who also serves as a lecturer at the institution.

The ideal situation would be having all the players confined in a safe place and undergoing frequent tests for Covid-19.

However, Ngenga feels that the viability of such is farfetched due to the financial implications of the tests to all clubs.

“We cannot replicate what the NBA is doing here in Kenya since it is an expensive endeavour even for the teams that have sponsorships already.

My opinion is there should be no rush in resumption of sporting activities,” added the tactician who is a physician by profession.

Terror are set to make a return to the premier league this season. They gained promotion after qualifying for the Kenya Basketball Federation Division One playoff final, last season.

The side went on to beat the other premier league entrants Kenyatta University Pirates 3-1 to be crowned the division’s champions.
