Historic 105th edition of the NCBA Coast Open, Barry Cup, will headline the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Series this weekend at the Mombasa Golf Club, drawing 65 top amateur golfers from across the country.

Running from July 11, 2025, through Sunday, July 13, 2025, the tournament features a prize purse of Ksh400,000, with the winner set to pocket Ksh86,800.

However, series leader John Lejirma, who has dominated the last five legs and leads the KAGC standings with 2000 points, will be absent.

With Lejirma’s absence, the door now opens for third-placed Elvis Muigua to close in on Michael Karanga and possibly move up the leaderboard.

Coastal golfers, including Nyali Golf & Country Club’s Andrew Wahome, Adel Balala, William Odek and Mary Kandu, alongside Vipingo Ridge’s Naomi Wafula, will look to make the most of home advantage on the par-71 course that sits dramatically along the Indian Ocean shoreline.

The Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has appointed experienced referees Bernard Mwaura and Peter Macharia to oversee the tournament, ensuring adherence to the rules of The R&A and KGU.

Speaking ahead of the event, NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the sport across different levels.

He remarked, “We are happy to be at Mombasa this weekend for this historic event, which is an important part of the KAGC Series. Our support this year covers the full cycle of golf, including elite amateurs.”

Elsewhere, the NCBA Golf Series will also continue with at least 100 golfers expected for the Eldoret Golf Club Monthly Mug on Saturday, July 12, 2025, where more players will aim to secure slots for the NCBA grand finale in November.

Last weekend, Sigona Golf Club hosted the 16th qualifying leg of the NCBA Golf Series, drawing a field of 260 golfers. Standout performers included Sandeep Matharu, who carded a gross 72 to emerge as the Overall Gross Winner (Men) and Zipporah Gichigi, who topped the ladies’ gross category with 86.

Other notable winners were Saahil Shah in Division One (40 points), Milan Varsani in Division Two (42 points) and Bharat Lakhani in Division Three with an impressive 43 points, all of whom booked their places at the grand finale.
