Argentina see off Kenya in main World Cup rugby Sevens contest

The Kenya Sevens rugby team was knocked out of the main Rugby World Cup 7s (RWC7s) competition after going down 22-7 to Argentina in the round of 16.

Kenya needed to end a fourth-year running losing streak to the Pumas for the chance to meet New Zealand in the cup quarterfinals but the loss dropped Shujaa to challenge trophy where they will at 1.37 pm this Saturday play Scotland.

It will be crucial to win the match against hapless Scotland who got mauled 43-5 by New Zealand in their round of 16. 

Shujaa must now win against Scotland to improve on their previous 16th finish in the 2018 edition held in San Francisco. 

 A high tackle by Sammy Oliech was among the undoing for Shujaa against Argentina.

Kenya trailed by three tries at halftime while the second half was a balanced affair as each side managed a converted try, Kenya scored the sole try through Vincent Onyala.

Shujaa had kicked off the tournament on a good platter to secure a flawless 19-0 victory against Tonga in the pre-round of 16 thanks to three tries and two conversions in the RWC sevens opener held at the Cape Town stadium in South Africa.

A 14-0 halftime lead for Shujaa was a crucial achievement that ended up as a flawless victory.

A good defensive system and match fitness to control possession and resilience gave the team the ticket to advance to the round of 16 where Kenya was once again humbled by Argentina.

The RWC7s format is a winner takes it all competition that has already turned sweet and sour for some teams at the early stages of the 24-team competition. 

Kenya finished 16th in the 2018 edition and was geared to improve the previous performance.

The trimmed squad without some crucial big guns at the forward department got Kenya bullied by their opponent who pinned them into their territory to take an early lead.

For the previous priceless win over Tonga, Kenya had to kick off the match well and the opener try was scored by Willy Ambaka who hauled in his marker for great first blood that was converted to go 7-0 ahead after two minutes of play.
