Kenya’s fast rising star Okutoyi sails into Wimbledon quarters

Kenya’s fast rising tennis star Angela Okutoyi will today compete in the Wimbledon quarterfinals of the Girls’ doubles after she and her Dutch partner Rose Marie Nijkamp breezed through the second round.

The pair defeated Denislava Glushkova (Bulgaria) and Hayu Kinoshita (Japan) 6-2, 6-3 to make it to the last eight of the junior girls’ category.

On Tuesday, Okutoyi and Nijkamp defeated Georgia Pedone(Italy) and Kaitlin Quevedo(USA) 6-4,6-4 in the first round to proceed. 

Okutoyi’s girl’s singles campaign did not go well as she lost in two straight sets (6-3,6-2) to Canada’s Mia Kupres.

The 2020 African junior tennis champion and her partner Nijkamp will now meet  Czech pair of Linda Klimovicova and Dominika Salkova for a place in the semifinals serve off,1730 EAT.

Early this year Okutoyi became the first Kenyan to win an Australian Open game when she beat her Belgian opponent Amelie Van Impe 7-6,6-4 in the Round of 64. Later on in May she took part in the French Open which was her second slam. In Paris, she lost to World no. 330 Petra Marcinko of Croata (6-2,6-4).

The fast rising star’s heroics have seen her traverse the world and she will be hoping to improve on her latest performances.
