Ambani era begins as new AFC Leopards officials take charge
By William Muthama, July 4, 2025AFC Leopards has officially entered a new leadership era following the formal takeover by newly elected officials led by Boniface Ngaira Ambani.
The announcement was made on Friday, 4 July 2025, through the club’s official X handle with the message: “ITS A NEW DAWN AT AFC LEOPARDS. Change of guard. #OursForever #INGWE.”
Ambani, a former Ingwe striker and youth coach, was elected chairman on Sunday, 29 June 2025, during a Special General Meeting at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
He clinched the seat with 1,101 votes, defeating rival Enos Mutoka who received 647. Voting was carried out at four polling stations between 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Fresh leadership takes charge
The polls, conducted under the supervision of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), also saw the election of Isaac Mulanda Mulindi as Secretary General and Newton Lime Luchacha as Treasurer. All outgoing officials declined to defend their seats, allowing for a full leadership transition.
Ambani, who played a role in AFC Leopards’ last league title win in 1998, vowed to steer the club back to glory. His leadership is expected to focus on professionalism, accountability, and stronger community ties.
Focus on sustainability
One of the key issues confronting the new team is the lack of a permanent training facility and financial instability. Ambani’s blueprint includes revenue generation through merchandising, sponsorship deals, and improved fan engagement.

He also committed to inclusivity, promising equal support for both the men’s and women’s teams, a move that has resonated well with the club’s growing supporter base.
Fans watch closely
Ambani’s track record at Mara Sugar FC, where he served as sporting director and helped the club earn promotion to the FKF Premier League, has raised expectations.
With the baton now officially passed, supporters are hopeful the new leadership will restore AFC Leopards‘ former stature.
