AFC Leopards attacker ruled out of Sofapaka clash due to sickness

AFC Leopards attacker Cliff Nyakeya is set to miss the FKF Premier League match against Sofapaka FC scheduled for Saturday at Machakos Stadium.

According to Leopards, Nyakeya is off the injury list after recovering from a calf muscle injury but now has Malaria and will be out of the trip to Machakos.

The club has also confirmed that goalkeeper Lewis Opiyo has recovered from a knee injury and is ready to start training next week.

“Also missing is Levis Opiyo, who will resume training next week after recovering from a knee injury and Nyakeya has recovered from a calf muscle injury but will be out recovering from malaria,” AFC Leopards said in a statement.

Nyakeya missed matchday 10 nursing a right calf muscle strain, an injury he picked during an FKF Premier League encounter against Nzoia Sugar FC at Sudi Stadium where Leopards won by a solitary goal.  In the match, Nyakeya was forced to leave the field due to a calf issue.

Meanwhile, the club has announced that Lewis Bandi and Abubakar Musha are set to be sidelined for three months after surgeries early this week.

“Lewis Bandi and Abubakar Musha will be out for a period of 3 months as they recuperate from a surgical procedure they had earlier this week to repair their meniscus,” the club stated.

The Football Kenya Federation Premier League is set to resume action on the upcoming weekend, following the FIFA international break in mid-November.

Posta Rangers, the league leaders, are scheduled to face Shabana in a match at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The fixture is set to be broadcast, for Rangers as they aim to secure a victory and widen the gap between them and the second-placed Gor Mahia. Meanwhile, Shabana will strive to avoid a defeat and alleviate the pressure on their team.

Tusker, facing an inconsistent run that has seen them lose ground in the title race, will take on Bidco United at Kasarani Annex in a match kicking off at 1:00 p.m. FC Talanta is set to travel to Mombasa to clash with Bandari at Mbaraki Stadium at 3:00 p.m.

In other fixtures, Kariobangi Sharks, having slipped from the leading pack, are scheduled to play against Nairobi City Stars at 3:15 p.mat the Kasarani Annex. The late kick-off in Machakos will witness a showdown between Sofapaka and AFC Leopards.

AFC Leopards, undergoing a quest for stability after a challenging start to the season that led to the dismissal of head coach Tom Juma and the appointment of Tomas Trucha, will aim to find their footing.

Sofapaka, too, have not had a spectacular run, making a win crucial for both sides as they seek to make strides in the league.
