5 clubs to watch as 2025/26 season kicks off
The new season of the Football Kenya Federation is upon us.
The 2025/26 season is set to kick off this Friday, September 19, 2025, as Tusker FC entertain KCB at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.
People Daily Digital highlights the five clubs that enter the new season with the burden of responsibilities heavily on their shoulders.
Gor Mahia
The record league champions club embarks on a new season with the sole quest of reclaiming its league crown after finishing trophyless in the 20254/25 campaign.
Gor has fiitingly braced for the new campaign with a massive restructuring exercise resulting in the appointment of coach Charles Akkonor on Friday, August 1, 2025.

In its playing Unit, K’Ogalo has bolstered the goalkeeping department with Kenya’s first-choice custodian in the 2024 CHAN games, Bryne Omondi, enlisted to provide more depth and options besides that of Gad Mathews.
Additionally, the club has also seen the arrival of Ghanaian duo striker Ebenezer Adukwa and midfielder George Amonno who joined the club, each on a two-year deal.
The club will be among the clubs to watch as they venture out to reclaim their title and assert dominance in the Kenyan league.
Nairobi United
The newbies of the KPL season are poised to make their debut in the top tier after earning promotion from the NSL in 2025.
Nicholas Muyoti’s charges have already shown they cope with the demands of the elevated stage with decent performaces against the FKF PL big boys.
The 2025 Shield Cup, where they lived up to the billing as the tournament’s giant killers en route to the triumph that saw them earn their spot in the CAF Confederation Cup games, proved just that.
Police FC
The new champions will be out to mount a defence to their league honours.
Police, who braved a tough ending to the league to pip Gor Mahia to the 2025 title with a game to spare,seeks to better their last seaosn run after also recruiting mssaively for the ndemads of the new season.
The team will compete on two fronts both at the CAF level in the Champions league games and the local enegagements in the FKF PL.
Under Etinne Ndajiragijye, the law enforcers has added a number of Congolese signings.
Kenyan international Joash Onyango has also been roped in for the new campaign.
Shabana FC
As one of the clubs commanding a massive following in Kenya, Tore Bobe seeks improved tidings after
Shabana, who returned to the top flight in 2023, aims to make a mark in the local scene in their second tast of the FKF PL.
The Gusii-based club contributed two players in the Kenya’s National team for CHAN games, and it remains to be seen if the experience acquired by Brian Michira and Austine Odongo could inspire the team’s run.
The two, however, endured limited opportunities under Benni McCarthy.
Led by Peter Okidi, who boasts immense experience in the top flight, the club finished fifth last season will be among the teams to watch with keen interest after defying expectations in the run up to the 2025 season.
AFC Leopards
Ingwe is another side seeking improvement after finishing the season at a disappointing tenth place.
The club has seen phenomenal changes across its playing unit and management with Boniface Ambani’s election as club chair ushering in a new dawn at Ingwe.
With it still being early days, it remains to be seen how the new office translates the new impetus to the team playing unit that seeks to end the longwait for a league title.
Last cup win
Ingwe’s last league title came in 1998. The club’s most recent taste of top-flight silverware came in the FKF Shield Cup in 2017.
Striker Elias Mugane and former Police midfielder Tyson Otieno highlight the standout performers who have joined the den.
The former enjoyed a breakthrough season with Fortune Sacco in the NSL where he proved an excellent goal-scoring machine.
