The National Land Commission (NLC) has approved the land lease request by Homabay County Government for the development of the new County Headquarters.

The move now paves the way for the construction of a modern and efficient facility that will serve the people of Homabay for the years to come.

The land Kanyada/Kanyabala/3537 leased by Homa Bay County was handed over to the County Pension Fund Registered Trustees.

This is after the Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga (pictured) led administration made an application to the NLC last month to be allowed to use the parcel of land for the construction of the County Headquarters.

“The National Land Commission considered the request and made a resolution to issue consent to lease the referenced parcel of land to County Pension Fund Registered Trustees for 31 years with effect from May 7, 2024,” said NLC Chairman Gershom Otachi.

The county has leased the land to the CPF Group which will develop the project through a financing model, the tenant purchase scheme that allows for flexible and long-term financial support.

Constitutional mandate

The Consent is in line with the constitutional mandate of the Land Commission to manage public land on behalf of National and County Governments.

“I commend the County Government of Homa Bay for setting the way in ensuring compliance with the law on strategic utilisation of land to attract long-term investment. NLC stands ready to facilitate similar transactions for other County Governments,” said Otachi.

Yesterday while making the pronouncement, Otachi called on all public bodies to follow the provisions of the law in leasing out land under their custody, adding that the Commission has received a number of requests from Homa Bay for processing of ownership documents for different institutions.
