Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris has joined other Kenyans in condemning security agencies following the surge of abductions witnessed in the country.

In her statement which comes in response to reports on the discovery of missing activist Ibrahim Hilal Mwiti whose body was found lying at the Thika Level 5 Mortuary on Friday, January 3, 2024, Passaris noted that the incident which has since sparked public outrage calls for urgent action.

She also stated that it is time authorities prioritize the rights of citizens and conduct thorough investigations into other forceful abductions witnessed across the country to foster a safer environment for everyone.

“This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for action. Authorities must prioritize citizens’ rights and conduct thorough investigations into abductions to create a safer environment for all,” she said.

Additionally, Passaris underscored that its time security agencies restore faith in law enforcement by ending what she described as the culture of impunity.

She also stressed that every Kenyan deserves to live without fear of unlawful detentions.

“The culture of impunity must end to restore faith in law enforcement and ensure that every Kenyan can live without fear of unlawful detentions. Let us pray for the safe return of all abductees and demand accountability and justice. #EndAbductions #JusticeForAll,” she added.

The Woman Rep’s remarks come amid mounting pressure over the abductions of youths fond of criticising President William Ruto’s governance across various media platforms.

Amid the outcry from the public and parents of victims, President Ruto has maintained that he will deal with citizens inciting others against his government.

Speaking during the burial of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Ann Nanyama, at Mukhweya Village in Bungoma County on Friday, January 3, 2024, the Head of State regretted that some politicians and a section of the youth have been misusing the prevailing democracy to incite and abuse leaders.

He warned that failure to deal with the waywardness will lead to a ‘chaotic democracy’.

“We must ensure our democracy doesn’t become chaotic, abusive and a democracy that undermines the rule of law. I will say that my administration will keep to the law and everybody must respect the law,” Ruto said.

“We have made it clear that any criminality must be investigated whether undertaken by citizens or criminals or even the police. It must be investigated, and we must get to the bottom of any criminal activity.”

Adding;

“We can’t go back to the days when Kenyans were being found in Yala river dead almost thirty-something. Others were found in Tana River and even National Park and that won’t happen in my administration. It’s good that Kenya is a democratic society but let’s not abuse it.”
