Ruto vows to crush critics, youthful online inciters
President William Ruto has vowed to deal with a section of youth and leaders using social media to incite Kenyans against his government.
The president said the politicians should not use the prevailing democracy to incite people about his broad-based government.
Speaking at Mukhweya village in Bungoma County during the burial of Ann Nanyama, mother to national assembly speaker Moses Wetangula, Ruto regretted that some politicians were misusing the prevailing democracy in the country by inciting and abusing those in leadership.
The Head of State warned that failure to tame the waywardness by the youth through a whole society approach will lead to a ‘chaotic democracy’.
“We must ensure our democracy doesn’t become chaotic, abusive and a democracy that undermines the rule of law. I will say that my administration will keep to the law and everybody must respect the law,” stated Ruto.
President Ruto highlighted that all security agencies have the right to undertake their mandate independently within the confines of the law without the interference or influence of the government.
“We have made it clear that any criminality must be investigated whether undertaken by citizen or criminal or even the police. It must be investigated, and we must get to the bottom of any criminal activity,” the President said.
“We can’t go back to the days where Kenyans were being found in Yala river dead almost thirty something. Others were found in Tana River and even National Park and that won’t happen in my administration,” he added.
“It’s good that Kenya is a democratic society but let’s not abuse it, “ Ruto warned.
Without mentioning names the head of state said some leaders were using political forums and social media platforms to incite and abuse his administration.
He said when he took over leadership he promised to end extra judicial killings and vowed that it will never happen in his administration.
He ordered inspector of police Daglous Kanja to ensure that there are no judicial killings in the country.
“I want police to do their work and bring the perpetrators to book without any discrimination.
“I want police in the country to do their work and arrest all behind the abductions without favouring anyone”he ordered.
He said he had empowered police by removing all the operations from his office to that of IG so that they could carry out their work well.
COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli had earlier claimed that some youths were abducting themselves to get sympathy from the government.
Atwoli asked parents to teach their children to respect the office of the president and stop misusing social media platforms. The COTU boss asked the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to stop inciting Kenyans.
