Kenyan entertainers have been a big part of many people’s well-being throughout the year, putting smiles on many’s faces. As this festive season is traditionally known as the most favourable time to rest, it is also a high season for the showbiz personalities. So, will they take the much desired break? Adalla Allan finds out.
Jalang’o
Felix Odiwour aka Jalang’o intimates that he won’t be taking a break. Throughout 2021, he has been consistent on his YouTube channel Jalang’o TV.
The Comedian and content creator and now aspiring politician says that every day is a content creation day and this time he will be thrilling his fans with content from the village. “For us, every day is a day of creating content.
That is why I had to focus on diverse content apart from the Bonga na Jalas interviews.
Wherever I can get a good story for people, something that will enlighten them, I go with it.
I will be spending time with family and friends in my village in Gem, Siaya county, and that doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t come up with content,” he tells Spice, adding that the availability of good gadgets has made it easy for anyone to produce content from anywhere without struggling.
He expects more content to be released, especially this festive season.
Azziad
As for actor and TikTok sensation Azziad Nasenya, the year has been a good one for her career as she has earned more endorsements and recognitions.
“The year has been full of ups and downs, but I am thankful to have managed to make it till the end. I am thankful to have made some notable achievements.
I will be spending my festive season in the village with family,” she says.
Eric Omondi
Comic Eric Omondi says that his festive season started early as he had already taken a break a week before Christmas and chose to unwind after his long year of hard work. Eric has been in the limelight throughout the year for both good and wrong reasons.
He says that spending time with family in Kisumu will be his best antidote. However, he will be having events in Kakamega on the 23rd and 24th of this month.
“I will be having two major events in Kakamega on Christmas eve, but on Christmas Day, I will be at my parents’ home in Kisumu with my family.
I am looking to relax in the coming week because I have so much entertainment lined up for my fans in 2022,” he says.
Ringtone
With the Omicron variant of the coronavirus currently wrecking havoc across the world, gospel artiste Alex Apoko aka Ringtone sees the virus as a big threat to his movement during the celebration season.
He says this year has not been a walk in the park for him, but he has learnt a lot along the process, and that 2022 will be even bigger and is looking to make a big announcement in politics.
“I have visited just a few of my friends during this season due to the worry of the new wave of Omicron. I won’t be performing anywhere this festive season.
As a believer, I will be using my Christmas to meditate. It is not a time for just to party, but a time to reflect if God is still in my life,” he says.
Peter Kawa
For film director Peter Kawa, the month has been hectic as he premiered two films Medicine Man and Christmas Love.
“I will not be travelling this Christmas since I am still working on releasing an online link for the movies we premiered this month,” he says.
Celestine Gachuhi
Actress Celestine Gachuhi confesses that she has been impatiently waiting for Christmas and she is looking to spend good time with family.
“At Least this is the time when you can go and meet the family and tell stories on what has happened in the past 12 months.
Also I am looking forward to see people that I have not seen in a while. And of course, I will be enjoying one of my favourite meals; nyama choma prepared from the village,” says the Selina telenovela lead actress.
VDJ Jones
As clubs and entertainment joints are currently opened, the Superstar Entertainment boss VDJ Jones’ desire is that when President Uhuru gives his Christmas briefing, the joints should not be shut again, as deejays are looking to make money during this festive season.
“I am fully booked throughout the festive season except on the Christmas Day where I am planning to go spend it with my parents in the village,” he says, adding that this time around, many DJs like him will not find time to relax as big expenditures are awaiting in January, which is just a few days away.
Wambui Katee
For singer, actress and model Wambui Katee—who made big steps forward in 2021 with hits such as Meant to Be, Futa Jasho and Perfect Spot Cover—spending time with family will be the highlight of her festive season.
She tells Spice, “Apart from listening to Christmas carols every evening, I have two siblings who completely fill my heart with joy at home.
This is the time we watch Christmas movies together and cook different kinds of foods. It’s cliché, but for me, Christmas is family time.
Thank you for your support in my music this year. I wish you all a happy holiday season and a peaceful new year.”
DJ Kalonje
Award-winning spinmaster George Waweru aka DJ Kalonje intimates that 2021 has not been an easy year for the entertainment industry, so he cannot turn down a chance to perform during the festive season to get that moolah.
“Christmas will just be a normal day for me; I will have time with family in the daytime and then head to work in the evening,” he says.
Kinyash
For the fast-rising comedian and YouTube content creator Alex Wamatu alias Kinyash, spending his holiday at the village will be an advantage to him, as he expects more content to come through.
This year has been a big year for him as his brand has grown in ways he never expected.
“I am looking to work with bigger artistes next year and coming up with unique content due to the rapid increase in the number of online comedians,” says the father of one.
Size 8
Gospel singer-cum-pastor Size 8 asserts that she will be having time with family as they visit children’s homes.
“The year has been full of huddles, but it has made her even more bolder. I have every reason to thank God for,” she says.
Mulamwah
Comedian Mulamwah has also been in the spotlight throughout the year, especially so after going separate ways with his girlfriend Carol Sonnie early this month.
He choses to see this festive season as another opportunity to do shows and make visits.
“Christmas is all about spending your time with people. It only makes sense if you do so.
You can choose to go to a children’s home and give back to society or just stay around with friends and family. For me, I will be having a show here in Nairobi,” he says.
KRG the Don
Artiste and Fast Cash Records CEO David Karuga aka KRG the Don is worried about the new wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and is looking to spend the festivities with family in Nairobi.
The Mathogothanio hitmaker says the short recess set by schools has also disoriented most people’s plans to go for vacations.
Desagu
Comedian and online content creator Henry Desagu says that Christmas will just be a normal working day for him to create content.
“I will be working as usual as currently our online content creation work is at its peak. I will be looking to spend time with my family in January.
Being reluctant in December is what makes us have a rough New Year,” says Desagu.
