Wetang’ula reveals details of his last meeting with Jirongo
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has come out to explain details of his meeting with the late Lugari MP, Cyrus Jirongo, who breathed his last following a fatal crash at the Karai area near Naivasha town.
While visiting the home of the late Jirongo on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the Speaker narrated that the late leader called him on December 9, 2025, while he was in Uganda and told him that he wanted to meet him. Upon his return, Wetangula said he called Jirongo on December 12, 2025, and they organised to meet at Karen Oasis Resort, where they spent time together.

He further stated that the reason Jirongo had called him was to console him following the demise of his mother Anne Namaemba late last year, as he had been unable to attend the burial. Jirongo also promised to attend the burial of Wetangula’s brother, James Mukwana, in Tuuti Marakaru, Bungoma County, on December 18, 2025.
“When I returned home, I called him on December 12, and we met at a hotel where Jirongo explained why he wanted to meet.
“He explained that he had been unable to attend my mother’s burial in Bungoma and promised to attend my brother’s funeral on December 18,”
Wetangula further stated that they parted ways at around 9:00 p.m., both expecting to meet again at his brother’s funeral, only for the unfortunate news of Jirongo’s death to emerge the following day.

“We parted ways around 9 p.m., hoping to meet him at home later, but that was not to be. I was shocked the following morning to hear that Jirongo had died,” he added.
Wetangula further explained that he had known Jirongo since 1988 and that the two had remained close confidants since then. He said Jirongo had touched his life in various ways.
“In the morning, I learned he had died in an accident. That is how close he was to me. I have lost a great and personal friend,” Wetang’ula said.
“Cyrus Jirongo touched my life because we have done a lot together, including educating children,” Wetang’ula added.
“Let us all strive to live Jirongo’s spirit, the way he wanted us to be united as a community and as a country,” he said.
Itinerary of Jirongo’s body
It will then be taken to his Gigiri residence, where it will spend the night before being airlifted to his Kitale home, which also serves as his second wife’s residence, on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

The body will leave Kitale on Monday morning, December 29, 2025, for his Lumakanda home in Lugari Constituency, where he served as a Member of Parliament, ahead of his burial on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
